As one of ‘the Bristol Boys’ Robert John Baker – Bob Baker – along with his then-writing partner Dave Martin, contributed seven wildly-imaginative Doctor Who serials to the long-running BBC family sci-fi hit between 1971 and 1978 including 1973’s tenth anniversary serial ‘The Three Doctors’ and 1978’s ‘The Invisible Enemy’ which introduced the show’s popular robot dog K9.
Flying solo in 1979 Bob wrote ‘Nightmare in Eden’ for Doctor Who’s seventeenth season.
In a career which now spans over fifty years, Bob has become one of the UK’s most successful and prolific TV scriptwriters working on shows such as Shoestring, Target and Bergerac; he co-created the popular 1980s ITV children’s drama Into the Labyrinth and with Dave Martin wrote the eerie seven-part children’s sci-fi serial Sky and the haunting King of the Castle (both of which he has recently novelised).
More recently he has become closely associated with Nick Park and Aardman Animation, scripting several of the acclaimed Wallace and Grommit adventures including the BAFTA-winning A Matter of Loaf and Death and the Academy Award-winning feature film Curse of the Were-Rabbit in 2005.
